once telegram is connected, capy sends your reminders straight to your chat. you can mark things done, push them to later, or add new stuff without opening the app.
connect it
- in heycapy, open tweaks → notifications → telegram and press
[connect]. - you get a link and a qr code. open the link on your phone, or scan the code. it works once and expires after 15 minutes.
- telegram opens the heycapy bot. tap start. the bot says “connected to heycapy ✓”.
- back in the app, press
[recheck]. it should now say connected. press[send test]if you want to be sure.
new buckets you make from now on have telegram ticked already. for buckets you had before, open bucket settings → notifications → channels and tick telegram, otherwise their reminders won’t go there.
reminders
a reminder looks like this:
⏰ pay rent
due today, 6:00 PM · bills
- ✓ done marks it done. the message updates so you can see it went through.
- 🕐 reschedule lets you pick a new date for it.
- the bottom row reminds you again later. you choose which of these show up in bucket settings → notifications → reminder buttons, under remind me again in.
if something goes overdue you get a 🔴 message instead, with the same buttons.
adding things from the chat
the bot puts a small keyboard under the chat:
- ➕ add walks you through it: pick a bucket, type the title, pick a deadline.
- 📝 list lets you pick a bucket and browse what’s in it.
- 📋 today and ⚠️ overdue do what they say.
if you’d rather type it in one go: /add 2 pay rent @ friday. the 2 means your second bucket, in the order /buckets lists them, and everything after @ is the deadline. “tomorrow”, “next friday”, “dec 25” and “in 3 days” all work.
shared buckets you’ve joined show up in the bot too: in /buckets, in ➕ add and 📝 list, and their reminders come here like your own.
for a bucket you use a lot, give it a shortcut. open bucket settings → notifications → configure telegram and set an alias like rent. then /rent pay rent adds it straight to that bucket. in the same place you can pick which deadline buttons show up and whether it asks about repeating. in a shared bucket, only the owner can change these.
commands
| command | what it does |
|---|---|
/buckets | your buckets, tap one to browse it |
/list | everything due in the next 7 days |
/due | what’s due today |
/overdue | what’s overdue |
/add | add something, step by step |
/help | all commands, plus your shortcuts |
chatting with capy
anything that isn’t a command goes to capy, same as the chat in the app. ask “what’s due this week?” or say “remind me to call mom on sunday” and capy sorts it out. it uses your capy credits, or your own ai key if you’ve added one.
self-hosting
on your own server, telegram needs a bot of your own. create one with @BotFather, put its token in .env as TELEGRAM_BOT_TOKEN, and restart. APP_URL has to be a public https address, because telegram sends messages to your server there. the connect button in tweaks shows up once the token is set, and pressing it also points the bot at your server.
