is heycapy free?
yes. lists, reminders and every way of getting them are free at app.heycapy.xyz. only capy, the ai, uses credits. new accounts start with 15, the getting started guide gives up to 50 more, and after that you buy a pack or add your own ai key. hosting it yourself is free forever. the pricing page has the details.
do i have to use the ai?
no. adding and editing items yourself costs nothing, and dates typed into a title like "pay rent friday 9am" fill in by themselves without the ai. if your credits run out, your reminders keep coming. only capy pauses.
is there an app for iphone or android?
not in an app store. you add heycapy to your home screen from the browser and it opens like any other app, in its own window. here's how on an iphone, android or computer.
how do reminders reach me?
by email, push, telegram, ntfy, discord, slack or any url. each bucket picks its own. reminder emails go out through your own email account, heycapy itself only sends sign-in codes. with gmail that takes about two minutes to set up. the notifications guide covers all of them.
can i share a list with family or friends?
yes, it's in beta. invite people to a bucket with a code, a link or a qr code. everyone sees the same list, you can give an item to one person, and each of you is reminded on your own channels, in your own timezone. others only see your username and avatar, never your email. more in the sharing guide.
what happens to my reminders when i travel?
they keep running on your saved timezone. when heycapy sees you're somewhere else, it asks if you want to move your reminders to the new clock or keep the old one. see timezone.
does it work offline?
no, the app needs internet. your reminders don't, though: they're sent from the server, so they arrive even when heycapy is closed.
where is my data, and who can see it?
on app.heycapy.xyz it lives on fly.io in frankfurt, germany, on an encrypted disk. your ai keys and email login are encrypted again before they're saved. i don't sell your data, run ads or use trackers. the privacy page lists everyone who sees any of it and why.
can i download my data or delete my account?
yes, both in tweaks → account. download my data gives you one file with your buckets, items, settings and chats. deleting takes a code from your email and removes everything. copies in the nightly backups are gone within 7 days.
can i host heycapy myself?
yes. it's open source under the mit license and runs on your own server with docker. your data then stays on your server. the self-hosting guide walks you through it.
what if heycapy shuts down?
if i ever have to shut the hosted version down, i'll give you at least 30 days. that's enough time to download your data. the code stays open source, so you can always keep running heycapy yourself. the terms have the rest.
